Escort Fuel problem PLEASE HELP

Hi
I have 1992 Ford escort given to me, thought it would be an easy fix, First I could not get fire, changed the computer and now I have fire but no fuel pump, I have checked and there is no voltage to the fuel pump, I have replaced the fuel shut off, I replaced what I believe was the fuel pump relay, but not positive since I can not find any documentation to the exact location of it. Also the drivers side seat belt does not work, and was wondering if this could be wired in with the fuel pump for safety reasons. I have tried about everyting, I hot wired the fuelpump and it does run and supply fuel to the fuel rail but injectors apparently not firing because it wont start unless i spray fuel into the air intake, I have tried other computers from a known good 1993 escort and can not even get fire with it, PLEASE PLEASE give me any suggestions you can think of, I am to the point of junking the car out of frustration,

Re: Escort Fuel problem PLEASE HELP

I came to this forum to look for fuel pressure answers myself, so I am by no means an expert. However, I was just reading in my Haynes manual about the fuel pressure inertia switch that automatically cut off the power to the fuel pump whenever the car is in an accident. The manual says it can be triggered by something as simple as a deep pot-hole. The switch is located near the right rear strut. On my 94 there is an access door there labeled "fuel Cutoff switch" Hope that helps you.

You need to get yourself a wiring schematic... a basic one from a Haynes manual is probably good enough.

If you can hotwire power to the pump and it works, then you simply need to follow the circuit either forward or backward until you find where the power is lost.

I would bet on a relay or fuse.

Re: Escort Fuel problem PLEASE HELP

thanks for the responses but I have replaced the inertia switch, and also purchased a chiltons manuel, which was very disapointing, it talks about checking the fuses and relay but I can not find where they are located, the fuel injection fuse under the hood was tested and good, and there is not any bad fuses in the fuse panel. I am still stuck and dont really know where to go from here.

Re: Escort Fuel problem PLEASE HELP

I don't have any info on the '92 Escorts but I have a manual for the '95 range, so I can post the wiring diagrams and component location diagrams from that, if that's any help. Do you have the 1.8L or 1.9L? The fuel systems differ, depending on model.

I have a 98 escort that has 2 fuses for the fuel injection......perhaps you have the same....One is located under the hood and the other is near the left side of the driver's side...near the fuel cut-off switch, a little higher above the fuse box under your dashboard. Maybe that one might be burned out....hope that helps....

Re: Escort Fuel problem PLEASE HELP

Do the numbers on the computer match? They have to be exact match with original for every thing to work.
