From TBI to Carb. ?

I have a 91' Chevy truck that I need to replace the engine in. I was thinking of going to a carb instead if going back to the TBI setup. Where I live the emissions laws are not strict at all, but I would like to in the future make the truck pass the gas analyzer test. I live in Texas. Does anyone know the legalities of switching from fuel injection to carburetion? Also, are the TBI engines able to operate a mechanical fuel pump. This truck is purely a project vehicle so I don't have to depend on it every day. I could go back with TBI but the previous owner of the truck butchered to wiring harness. I see people around here do this conversion a lot and I know they are OK for now. I'm pretty sure nobody will pull of my breather to see if I still have fuel injection or not, but I don't know how long that will last.

Re: From TBI to Carb. ?

I'm doing that right now with my 88, but i don't think you can make it pass emissions without all the electronic gizmos on it. Im putting a 63 283 in mine w/a quadrajet. Yes the tbi blocks have the provisions for the maunal pump, they don't have the rod for the pump in there obviously. I don't think the pump wil lbuilt enough fuel for the tbi though.

I could probably get away with it but I'm not sure for how long. If I knew that we would not have any emissions test around here for a while I would just go ahead and do it.

Unless you live in a big city I seriously doubt you will get sniffed. They don't sniff here (east texas). If you find a good ole boys style repair shop that does inspections they will most likely just ask if it has a horn and tires and send you on your way with a shiny new sticker.
