64 won't start!

First, I'm new here.

Second, boyfriend has a 64 impala, and she will not start for anything!

She's been sitting in the driveway for a couple weeks. He's pretty much checked everything he could, starter, altenator, wiring.

She won't even click any more.

Any ideas?

ignition switch?

There are 3 wires running to the battery, two of which have always been connected, the other one never has been but we were thinking was close enough to still have a connection.

Welcome to AF. All basics here, fully charged battery?, when cranking 12v to the starter solenoid, if so it is bad, if not trace back to the ign. switch. How can " close enough" for any wire mean it has a connection?

Re: 64 won't start!

I had a '77 Monte Carlo that wouldn't start to save my life. Everything checked out good and I mean EVERYTHING. It even had spark... it turned out the spark wasnt strong enough. It was enough to see, but not enough to ignight the fuel. A change of all 8 spark plugs and it fired right up. But it could be things like your pickup coil, moisture in the distributor, if your running the original distributor the points and contacts could be dirty.

Thanks hun.

Battery is totally charged, he switched the ignition switch out, and it was close enough, im assuming. our friend has a 63 that had the same problem he was able to connect the wire and it worked fine.

And thanks Pete, I'll throw all those at him when I talk to him again. He's getting more and more frusterated with her.
