I've been a bored and normal gear headed teen I wanted to get my bro's Camaro in the back yard to run. I check it over make sure it's not seized, throw some gas in it, charge up the battery everything is good. I turn the key the lights work the windsheild wipers work so i'm like great. I turn the key and all I hear is tick tick tick tick really fast. I asked my dad and he said it's the starter he told me to smack it with a hammer a few times. I did so, it ticked faster and longer. Before I go tearing the damn thing out. Is this the problem?

Re: '76 Camaro Lt Starter Issues?
Sounds like a weak battery. A weak battery will make the solenoid "chatter" like you describe. Just because you charged the battery doesn't mean it is good...and even a weak battery can and will run all of the accessories. try another battery and see if that will crank it over...not a jumpstart, put another battery in. If the battery has dead cells, jumpstarting won't always work because the bad cells will inhibit current flow.

Re: '76 Camaro Lt Starter Issues?
I would try another battery and see if it ticks and if it does then your starter is no good when they sit for long periods of time with out starting them the battery usually goes bad and the starter siezes. Good luck hope you get it running.
