Power Mirror Broken, need to replace

My passenger side power mirror broke (the black molding) tried epoxy and that held for a while, then the mirror broke yet again. I need to replace it, wondering if anyone has done this and if it's easy to do yourself or best to take to I guess I would take it to a body shop.

Thanks

Welcome to AF!!

You don't need to go to a body shop. Just purchase another mirror from a wrecking yard. Try car-part.com to search wrecking yards in your area. Once you find a new one you shouldn't have any problems changing it. Just take your time.

Re: Power Mirror Broken, need to replace

Thanks for the suggestion, I know where a few salvage yards are.

I tried looking at the mirror and was going to take off the mirros so it doesn't hang but I can't seem to get it apart. I have a '99 for what it's worth. Seems like there is some screw that would need to be undone, but on the inside on the other side of the mirror is the speaker.

Re: Power Mirror Broken, need to replace

It's easy to get it off. Just grab the speaker frame on the opposite side of the mirror and pull straight out. The speaker is held on by metal clips. Once you have the speaker out, you will find 3 nuts. Just loosen these (it's a good idea to have the window down and be holding onto the mirror at the same time) and the whole mirror assembly will pull right out. Oh yeah, if it's a power mirror, you will also find a small wire harness behind the speaker. That will also need to be disconnected. Pry up gently on the clip and it will slide apart.

Re: Power Mirror Broken, need to replace

Thanks for the help was able to get the mirror off last night. I had to leave the 3 bolts for now, since they are covering holes in the car door until I can get the mirror this weekend. The whole mirror assembly was broken around the bolts so I had to break that off in pieces. The worst part was prying the door panel enough to get that stupid wire undone. But at least now it's off and not dangling from my car anymore.

Thanks again.
