Fan Problem
The fan on my 92 lebaron goes on and off causing over heating while sitting in traffic. What should i check first, relay, thermostat for fan, or is the fan itsself going?
Thanks |

Re: Fan Problem
It should go on and off, thats the way it works. If the engine is overheating, is it really of just the temp guage reading? Check the thermostat first. Than what is the color of the coolent. Should also be changed.

Re: Fan Problem
Replace engine thermostat every two years. They go bad real fast. Buy a name brand. They will last longer. What are the symptoms of the overheating?

Re: Fan Problem
the symptoms are temp gauge goes up and the check gauges light comes on. It doesn't do this on the freeway just when sitting in traffic. One night I was waiting for for my wife in the parking lot and the temp went up and the check gauges light came , so I got out and checked to see if the fan was running and it was off.

Re: Fan Problem
First make sure you are not just low on coolant. Then test the temperature to make sure the engine is overheating with a thermometer. Your temp. guage might have gone bad. If the engine temp. is over about 235 f. the engine fan should be on. It comes on at about 230 f. This is normal engine temp. If the guage reads to hot it might be a bad guage. There are two temp. senders. One for the guage and one for the fan and computer. If it is over 235 f. than change the thermostat.
