1996 Silverado - Fuel Pump Replacement
I want to replace the in-tank electric fuel pump on my 96 Silverado, 5.7L. It has 90000 miles, so want to replace it as a precaution.
Do most people pull the assembly out of the tank and just replace the pump itself (about $100-150), or is it common to just replace the entire sending unit and assembly ($300). Fuel gauge works fine as it is. I've been told I should replace the wire harnesses too? Appreciate any time saving suggestions! Thanks |

Re: 1996 Silverado - Fuel Pump Replacement
Most people replace the enitire assembly. I wouldn't bother replacing if it doesn't need it though. No point wasting a day under your truck and $300, but that's just me. With only 90k, if you are not seeing any problems, it may run for much longer.

Re: 1996 Silverado - Fuel Pump Replacement
If your going to go to the trouble of doing one, I would do both. But I agree w/ rjeffery, I wouldn't do anything until it breaks. You can easily get 200,000 miles on them, or it might crap out tomorrow.
