Failure Codes on '97 Jetta

My 1997 Jetta GL, 2.0 5-Speed car failed inspection on code 1582 and the Volkswagen dealer said that it had a bad throttle body. Throttle body was replaced with a used one and we still cannot get that code cleared. When you clear the code, it stays out for a day to two days and then the engine light comes back on with the same code. If anybodys got an idea of what is going on, please give me some sort of information????

Cleaning the internals of the throttle body may work. Visit this thread for more info:

Re: Failure Codes on '97 Jetta

Make sure the connector is plugged in all the way. VW used a stupid style connector thats hard to connect and disconnect. The wires may be broken also because of the bend right next to the connector.

1582 is also idle speed adapt limit reached
I would reccomend cleaning the mass air flow sensor off and cleaning the throttle body and inside of intake manifold with throttle cleaner available at most all auto parts stores.

Re: Failure Codes on '97 Jetta

1582 is malfuntion in vehicle speed control, its more than likely your catalytic converter is bad, which is the main reason for your failing inspection.
