Clutch

The clutch got stiff all of a sudden, it wont engage to go from 1st to second. if i put it in second and give it gas it just revs up. But it will go in reverse and go foward if i rev the engine. I belive its the linkage and or the trowout bearins. But im not sure? How do i fix this problem?

Okay, maybe someone else here has a better idea about what you're saying, but I need some clarification. "The clutch got stiff" - okay. "it wont engage to go from 1st to second" - I think what you mean is that the car will not shift from first to second while moving. "If I put it in second and give it gas it just revs up" - Okay I think I understand. From a stop, you shift into second, let the clutch out and apply gas and it just revs without moving. "It will go in reverse and go forward if I rev the engine." - So it moves, but not like it should be moving.

Does the pedal disengage the clutch lower than normal? Higher? With the clutch pedal all the way down, are you able to shift into any gear with the engine idling and the car still? It sounds like the clutch is slipping, but also not entirely disengaging. Any new sounds? If you go under the hood, and jiggle the black arm that the clutch cable attaches to, does it jiggle back and forth freely about 1/8-1/4", or is it tight and unmovable by hand?
