Smile new to forum with questions

Okay...new to this forum. Traded one of my jeeps for a 91 civic EX due to need for a 4-door...yes new baby girl! Love this little car. I have put 15" rims on it, and threw a K&N in the stock box. I plan on the following:

short throw shifter
white face gauges
cold air intake
future zc or 5th gen vtec engine swap

Are the gauges a pain in the ass??? I found these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1871540227
and like em.

Any reccomendations on other stuff? There is some cheap stuff on ebay, especially cold air intkaes, anyone ever get one?
Any help would be great...glad I found this forum!

Sup man, good to see another 4dr joining the ranks. I bought an ebay generic short ram for $16 and really like it. Most of my other mods are in my signature, and I too am hoping to put on a short shifter sometime in the future.

As far as the short shifters go, I have heard some horror stories of them breaking off right at the threads and shit, so I would probably go with a DC sports or something.

your EX engine is the same as the Si hatch. so if you don't see things listed for EX, look under Si

i have always felt and intake is an intake. just some bent tube. you'll get your difference in the filter...in reguards to the shorter intkaes. i hear mixed things about the CAI.

i love me short throw shifter. still one of my favorite things.

you say you want a ZC or sohc vtec. just so you know, most parts you buy now will fit those as well. i wasn't happy with the d16a6 (88-91 Si)cam gear on the d16y8 (96-00 EX) couldn't get it from being 1 tooth out of time...but like the header & intake work

you should add exhaust and eventually header to your list oh yea...clear corners and sidemarkers can be found on ebay cheap

I have also heard stories about the no name brand's breaking off.
I have a DC Sports one, and i love it. Some cheaper solutions could be a Solo Short Shifter, they are pretty good quality.
if your looking for any parts shoot me off a email, i'll see if i can hook you up! [email protected]

Hey man, welcome to the forum, you will love it here!!! Oh, and about cold air intakes, just get cheapo pipeing and put on a K&N Cone Filter on the end.... And as for DC Shifters go, if you shift hard like me, dont get a DC shifter, because 2 of my friends who also shift hard, broke theirs off at the BALL on the bottom!!!! They are made out of Aluminum which all the cheap-o brands are made out of and cost like twice as much, i am gonna get a Skunk2 Short Shifter which runs about 110 and its steel, so it WONT break! And done get a ZC engine, unless you plan on rebuilding the whole engine before putting it in.... Get the Sohc Vtec engine, either the d16z6 out of a 92-95 civic EX/Si or a d16y8 out of a 96-2000 Civic EX...... the y8 produces a lil more power than the z6 does but only a matter of 1 or 2 hp..... Which ever motor you get you will have to use your stock tranny, since you have the Si tranny (Same as EX) you have the best tranny available for the d16 engine..... I can go on forever, but i wont, if you have any more questions, just ask us! we are here to help!

My skunk 2 is aluminium, filled with some kind of weight to make it counter weighted, I also have the matching knob.

ALRIGHT, Now its time for my RANT! Ok so no one take offense to this but I feel its time to be said.
I AM SICK AND FUCKING TIRED OF PEOPLE TELLING OTHERS THAT YOU HAVE TO REBUILD A ZC BEFORE YOU PUT IT INTO YOUR CAR. THEY THEN GO AND SAY GET A B16A, THEY ARE BETTER! Now, its ones thing for someone to say "Ive heard that ZCs are prone to spinning rod bearings.." because honestly I have seen that happen on 2 engines. Ive also seen just as many B16s smoke their ass off at the track at IDLE! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?! A 1st GEN B16A OUT OF A JDM SIR IS JUST AS OLD AS A ZC SO STOP FUCKING BANGING ON ZCs! Thank you for listening...

i agree with sick of hearing people suggest the b16. however i personally chose the sohc vtec over the zc. reason #1 zc's have most likely sat a number of years before it gets to you. that causes bad seals. my y8 wasn't even 2 years old and was $500 (12,000 miles on it). #2 zc is frankenstien. you need to keep a parts list to know what oil filter, timing belt, and so on it needs. #3 while parts fit the zc...none of them were made for the zc. where the sohc vtec has a wide market of parts.

i personally found the zc was not for me

Well I know you hate B series motors girl... You said ZCs sit for awhile, same with B16s! People think that just because it says B its gotta be awesome. like I said a first gen B series motor has sat just as long as a ZC... Think about it people! I like the price of your motor. I was considering the swap but I dont know about the torque. Seems it kicks in kinda high and the over power of the ZC is more.. But like you said you can find your motor in like new condition... Pros and Cons !

any way back on track... welcome to the forum, you should find it nice here and we are pretty good to answer any and all question you ask, if we know the answer, we don't talk out our ass, but as for a short shifter my personal recomendation is a B&M edge or Pro edge, i personally have the edge in my car and love it... it may be a bit more expensive than cheapo shifters but, if you drive hard and break a few you will quickly make up the difference, and i strongly recomend to get a bushing kit for it... after all your bushing for it will be 12+ years old and will make for a sloppy shift...

Yes, BUSHINGS!! My friends 94 GSR he didnt replace em so the short shifter makes hella noise in 5th gear unless he has his hand on it.
