Stuck Up
i posted a couple days ago about my car dying and trying to fix it, still in progress. ive got a 90 integra thats keeps giving me the same problem with almost every bolt. since the thing is so old and many of the bolts and nuts have been moved since their installation. currentlly im trying to take the 2nd banjo bolt out of the top of the fuel filter but the dang thing wont budge. ive soaked it in lube for hours and have tried using a metal pipe to get more leverage. no luck.
this is a ring of rust between the bolt and the metal lining. are there any other tricks or products i can use to get this thing out? i know there is some household thing that will dissolve the rust but it escapes me. baking soda or soda pop? thanks |

baking soda should help. penetrating oil will also help, leave lots of penetrating oil on/around the bolt and leave it a few hours to seep in and it should help loosen it up.

I've heard of liquid canning wax being used as a penatrant. I don't know if I'd pour anything hot on my fuel filter, though.
Otherwise, PB Blaster is the best oil I've found. |

impact gun is what you need. Removing the surface rust won't do a whole lot

1" drive, 1,800lb/ft impact gun should do the trick.

I think 600 ft/lb's will be more than enough to twist the filter into a pretzel

Phosphoorus acid is a good rust eater. Some bathroon cleaners contain a little bit. If you can get the rust off by chipping and cleaners - down to the bolt entrance hole then penetrating oil may have a better chance to get to the root of the problem. |

you can spray anything you like on the outside, but since its sealed completely, no substance will work its way into the sealing surface
penetration lubes and whatnot work great for regular bolt/nut situations where its not a completely sealed setup Hense: impact

I'd say get out the blue wrench, but not close to the fuel system!
If you have access to an air chisel, put in the blunt punch and "tap" any accessible flat on the nut or bolt. The vibration loosens up the crud/rust bond and the fastener should come out easier. Turn the pressure way down and practice on a piece of steel until you have the feel and control mastered. |
