Cruise control still not working - defective pressure switch

Using search, I previously checked/changed the oily pressure switch and checked the fuse box for a bad fuse. Several posts mention fuse #10, but thats not populated on my '97. I checked all fuses visually and all were ok.

Any ideas on what to check next in order to get the cruise working?

One post mentioned replacing the oily pressure switch connector - is this necessary? I cleaned it quite well using carb cleaner.

Re: Cruise control still not working - defective pressure switch

I have a 2000 Windstar. After reading this forum I replaced my brake pressure switch last week. Now I have cruise and all is well.
I had to go to the dealership and the part was about $25 and took no time to install. I cleaned the "old" connection with Quick Drying Electronic Cleaner. (By old I mean the existing connection in your van once you remove the defective part.) I probably didn't have to use the electric cleaner but I had some on hand.

It's funny. I have a '98 Explorer and the pressure switch is on top of the master cylinder. I've always say the "truck" department builds a better Ford than the "car" department.

Re: Cruise control still not working - defective pressure switch

If the brake pressure switch is leaking into the wires below, this is (apparently) a common cause of some electrical faults and in particular Cruise Control failure. I have no idea what's causing your difficulties but doing the brake pressure switch harness replacement fixed my Cruise Control failure.

Smile Re: Cruise control still not working - defective pressure switch

I own a 1995, 3.8L, and my cruise control quit working. I checked the fuse and still ok. Before going any deeper, I searched for threads that relates to cruise control and was advised to change/replace the brake pressure switch. The switch cost $12.50, from Y2K ford, and very easy to replace, took me about 10 minutes. Now my cruise control is working.
I love this forum.
