how do you check ignition timing on b20 engine

Get a timing gun, hook it up to the #1 plug wire, take out timing connector either underneath the dash (90-91) or in the drivers side engine bay (88-89). Shine the light on the crank pulley, aligned with the arrow on the plastic timing cover. The light should flash on the red mark 16* past TDC and the service limit is the two marks right next to the red one.
