Squeaking Distributor?

Everytime I start my truck up (92 Ranger 3.0 V6) It makes a squeaking noise and its driving me insane! Im guessing its something to do with the distributor because when I push on it, the sound changes. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Re: Squeaking Distributor?

Does the squeaking sound continue after the engine has run awhile? or does it happen only when you first start the engine? I am referring to the possibility of a lose belt.

Re: Squeaking Distributor?

distributer vulcans 86-94,some 95s do have a issue with the distributor gears going bad to where they need replacement at the bottom where the distributer is driven by the engine.

Re: Squeaking Distributor?

Naw its not the belt. It sounds more like metal clinging together then a squeaky belt. Plus when I touch the top of the cap or move the wires it changes the sound or stops it for a second. Its not running any differently or anything and I dont have any loss of power so I dont know. Also, it seems to do it more often in really hot, humid weather.
