Problem with both side mirrors

This is for a 2001 Grand Marquis with 60,000 miles.

When I click up for the left side mirror, the mirror moved towards the car and the down button works fine. For the right side mirror, the up and down buttons both results in the mirror moving down.

Any idea how to diagnose the issue and what is involved to fix them?

Re: Problem with both side mirrors

mine were doing the same thing at 50k i forget i even have em. they don't work at all now at 65k. I think it has something to do with the door panel. lately my doors will lock then unlock and cycle thru a couple of times. the other day they did it for 5 minutes. my friends think my car is haunted.

Re: Problem with both side mirrors

If you look inside your mirror, there is a small ball joint that pops into a socket. If it popped out for the vertical movement, it won't be able to go up (at least as I remember messing with mine).
