Need help on how to change fuel pressure regulator '86 crown vic
Got an '86 crown vic. 5.0 302 fuel injected. It has a bad fuel pressure regulator. It is on the fuel rail towards the rear (top) of the motor. Main problem is the three screws holding it on are facing DOWN. They seem to have an allen head top. How do I get this off short of taking the top of the motor down?? Cant seem to get any type of wrench down under it to get to the screws..
PLEASE HELP!! |

Re: Need help on how to change fuel pressure regulator '86 crown vic
Disable the fuel system, remove the little bolts that hold the fuel rail down, pull rail off carefully off the injectors. Then you can access the bolts and change regulator. Use a small amount of lubricant on the O rings on the injectors when reinstalling the fuel rail. Have fun.

Re: Need help on how to change fuel pressure regulator '86 crown vic
THANKS..
I'll give that a try. Im using the car in a trailer race next friday and didnt want to put more work in it than I already have. Im having problems with it starting without using starter fluid. Once its running, it runs fine, but to get it running it needs a shot of starter fluid. Also when its running the idle surges a few times and then stalls. Ive adjusted the idle up to get rid of that, but i would like to actually fix it.. Does this sound like the fuel pressure regulator? Ive changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump is fine.. I dropped the tank yesterday to fix a leak and checked all the lines and the screen on the end of the pump- all looked good.. Leak is fixed now also.. Thanks again for the advice.. |
