Air Filter Help

I have an 05 Sunfire 2.2 Ecotec that I bought from a Pontiac dealer this year. It has an aftermarket air filter. I'm just wondering if this is just a replacement for the stock filter. The filter is located in the front left corned behind the rad and beside the battery. It is a brand called Reactiv, and it is a conical(?) filter.

Sorry, pic didn't upload..

Re: Air Filter Help

if its a conical filter then it most likely is a replacement, i dont see why anyone would add an air filter,

with that conical filter though you wont need to repalce it, you can just clean those, a filter cleaing kit is around $10 at any parts store and ive cleaned mine 3 times alerady with the same kit

Re: Air Filter Help

You should post a pic of it....behind the radiator and next to the battery doesn't seem like an ideal place for the filter = more heat there.

Re: Air Filter Help

Thats the same place the stock air box runs. Just a bad description of the exit point from the sounds of things.

Re: Air Filter Help

Ok, here's what it looks like. I am running a Magnaflow exhaust with stock piping (came with the car).

Re: Air Filter Help

That's probly not the best set up to have. The previous owner got rid of the tube and just slapped that filter on the end. The problem with that is you're getting all the heat from the radiator and on top of that, since the tube is gone it no longer absorbs some of the heat, so now it's all getting all of it. Probly not a major issue but it's not helping anything.

Re: Air Filter Help

What can I do with this setup? This is my first car with aftermarket parts. The exhaust is pretty wierd, too. It's a Magnaflow muffler by the left rear wheel with one pipe out, but it has an "L" shooting out to the right side (last pic).

Re: Air Filter Help

Sad part is I dont think thats a/m I think that was an option from dealers or something because these days it seems like every 03+ fire around here has that stuptarded dual exhaust on it.

Re: Air Filter Help

It is a/m, cuz 1) it's a loud Magnaflow with a split pipe, and 2) the pipes fell when the home-made supports broke. I made the Pontiac dealer fix it for free, since they didn't tell me about it. I dunno what the previous owner was thinking.

Re: Air Filter Help

lol, kinda dirty for an 05 eh?

Why do people think that it a preformance thing to do to a single header engine? Duel exhuast does help with a twin header engine(2 headers 2 pipes and muffelers) Im guessing for looks?
