1950 pickup coil power

1950 Chevy 2500 pickup. Straight six motor-6 volt system. Does the ignition power go to the pos (+) or neg (-) side of the coil? We have it hooked up to the pos side now but no spark at the points. Points, condensor and coil are all new. Got 6 volts at the coil and continuity from the coil to the distributor.

Thanks..........Steve

Re: 1950 pickup coil power

Is this a positve or neg gd system, if neg gd it is hooked up right , if pos gd you have it hooked up wrong or the coil is wrong. I assume the points are gapped properly.

Re: 1950 pickup coil power

Thanks Max. It is a NEG ground system. Point gap looks a little wide for my eyes. Just got involved with this project today. I do know that at some point the ign power was hooked to the NEG side of the coil and that was the reason for the 1st ?. Could that have blown the coil? Point gap specs for a 6v system?

Thanks again..........Steve

Re: 1950 pickup coil power

Usually that will not fry the coil just reduce it's output, gap is about .025., but check on that.
