New MINI convertible

I've been here for a few years but had never post anything. I used to to post my work in the chinese forum but lately im tired of typing chiense haha so ya.... i post my latest work here.

i built a 2005 Cooper last year (2005 model got different bumpers and lights) and a few month ago my gf asked me to build her a 1/24 MINI convertible..... so ya here you go.

i purpously chose to build a Cooper S convertible because i dont need to modify the bumper. to be fair, fujimi did a pretty good job in this kit and the quality + design is better then the revell kit. but since i own a 1:1 New MINI, i can see that this kit still have a lot of stuff that do not look like the real thing.

more pic to come later

Re: New MINI convertible

First of all , an official welcome is in place, surely when the model looks as stunning as this.

You don't happen to have some progress pics laying around, do you?

It looks very well done and thought of, hope to see much more of it soonish. What color is it going to be painted in?

Keep up the good work!

Oli

Re: New MINI convertible

Oil: im afraid that it is not as stunning as you thought.... haha. afterall, im still a newbie after building a lot of models in the past 10 years ><. if it is my car, i will go for red for sure! but 2 bad i build it for my gf, so i dont get to choose. initially she wants orange but tamiya's orange doesnt look good on the mini (i believe).... so at last she chose Lavender (i knew that Mini used to offer this color in North America a few years ago but too bad they discontinued)

Klutz_100: no worries im posting it right now!

okay, the biggest problem with the fujimi kit is, well AS USUAL with all fujimi kit, is the freaking rim.... it just simply looks like 16" while it is suppose to be 17". so ya, i enlarged the rim a bit and used a different tyre from the other kit.

second thing needed to be modify is the seat. Mini's seat is suppose to be 'round and fat', but the one comes with the fujimi kit is too 'skinny'.... so ya, have to make it fatter.....

The 3rd item is the front bumper. dunno if any of you guys realized, all the fujimi cooper S's front bumper (both the standand body that i have or the JWC body) is just way too low and too fat. I think it is because it needs to deal with the very low chassis so they have to make the bumper lower then usual, which just simply look bad and not realistic. so i cut away the lower part of the bumper and replaced with a thin pastic sheet.

and the roll bar took me the longest time to build.... and it is still not yet finished

also the hood.... but it is not as complicated as i thought and it just took me a day to build it

and this is my 2005 Mini that i built last year

thx. more update later.

Re: New MINI convertible

I found my first real job shortly after i started this project so ya thats why it took me so long to build it. And I am waiting for my new camera so sorry guys no new pic for the project. But basically everything is painted and it will be finished soon. Honestly, after I start working, I compeletly lose interest in building car model because.... i just simply got no time.... sigh.....
