how to get codes

im working on a friends 01 sunfire with a 2.2. I know its misfiring im just trying to find out what cylinders. Their is a cel on so i was wondering with these cars is their anyway that you can pull a code by your self. For example 1st gen neons you turn the key on and off so many times then the cell will flash up a code. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Re: how to get codes

actually that works on pretty much every dodge made before 2001,

but not on these cars, you need a scan tool

Re: how to get codes

alright thank you, anyone have any advice on how i can troubleshoot this an easy way. I dont want to play the guessing game here. I really think that its one of the coil packs, but i dont want to go buy one and waste the money. Again thanks for any help in advance.

Re: how to get codes

just go to an auto parts store, most of them will scan your codes for free
