Angry column wheel lock

Help! My husband and I are new owners of a 1997 Corvette (Fairway Green). Unfortunalely we do not have an owners manual and need to purchase one. Today, when we went to start it, the message "check column wheel lock" came across the message screen. The wheels will not turn. Help!!

Re: column wheel lock

There was either a TSB or a recall for that problem. I would call a dealer & see what info they have.

Re: column wheel lock

If you need an owners manual, sign up @
www.mygmlink.com
and enter the VIN for your car - GM will advise you of any recall and they also have the owners manual available in PDF format.
It may take a day or two for them to verify your VIN...I recently did this with a 97 Vette, and it took about 2 days for them to send me an e-mail with the recall #'s

Enjoy the car, and get that wheel solenoid recall done...

PS I have inserted the text from my e-mail with MY recall #'s .....

Dear Mr. XXXXXX:

Thank you for your interest in the Owner Center at MyGMLink.com. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced while trying to register your vehicle.

Thank you for taking the time to send in the documents needed to update your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). We have associated your VIN with the 1997 Chevrolet Corvette and your profile is now complete. On behalf of General Motors, let me be the first to welcome you to the Owner Center. We hope you will find its many benefits useful.

While researching the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) you provided, we found there are two open recalls on this vehicle. The recall numbers are 00034 and 0406. These recalls involve the lap belt webbing twisted and electronic column lock system. We would like to refer you to your local Chevrolet dealer to have this taken care of at no cost to you.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the Owner Center at MyGMLink.com. If you have any further questions, please contact us at the Owner Center Customer Assistance Center at 866-694-6546 and refer to Service Request # 71-502315717. We are available seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time Zone.

Sincerely,

The Consumer Support Team

Re: column wheel lock

Thanks for the replies. I contacted GM and the problem was indeed a recall. Had it towed to the dealer and taken care of. We were also able to locate the owners manual. Now we can finally go for a ride

Re: column wheel lock

You should still look into getting the CLB alot of places sell them the cheapest I found was here http://www.adaptiveperformance.com/CLB.htm

Even with the recall done many have been stranded again, Im not sure all the detail but it's been detailed on numerous forums
