Hello. My family owns a 2000 Windstar minivan. One of the safest vehicles on the road, we also own a 1988 f150.
Anyways, how come the insurance cost more for the minivan then it does for the old pickup, as hte minivan is the safer or the two? Im asking this cause im going to be getting my license soon, and It is a cost difference of about 500$ between the two.

Cool Insurance rates

Probably just a case of old vehicle with cheaper parts vs. new vehicle with more expensive parts and higher replacement cost.

Well, my roommate's Dad owns an insurance agency and here's what he said....

It's mostly because the Windstar is newer. Thus, if an accident was to occur it would cost more to replace. That is what I thought too, but then he suggested some other possibilities, the most important being...

You're a teenager. The difference between a truck and a minivan is number of passengers. Teenage driver + lots of friends = bad possibilities. Not to diss on teenagers, but insurance companies play the numbers.
