Please help Sunfire owner

Hello,

I have a problem with my car, and this is what it's doing:

idling too high-about 2000k's and higher

the check engine light comes on

after an hr of driving with check engine light on, the rpms' will drop to normal

When I stop at a red light, when I accelerate , the car jerks a lot, and I have no power and the car shakes a lot. It will last for about 25 mins, then it will stop. Then RPM's will go high again.

Thank you,

Either vacuum leak, and a big one at that or faulty idle air control unit would be a good start.
