Starting problem
Hello,
I have recently been having problems with my 2004 Cavalier. Once in a while, I will try to start it, and it will not start, I hear the noise it makes right before it starts (kind of like somethings turning or something), but it just doesn't start. After that, around the third time, it will start. It's random, like every few weeks, maybe months, it'll do it than it will be fine afterwards. I was just curious if anybody has any ideas of what it could be. My girlfriend's father told me to turn it on but not try to start it to pressurize the fuel injector or something (please forgive me, I do not know much about cars), so I tried that, and it sort of helped, but it still does it. Could the fuel not being pressurized be the curprit, or are there any other ideas of what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again. |

Re: Starting problem
I am trying to understand what is going on here. Is the motor cranking over when you turn the key just not starting. Is that what you are saying.
If yes, then check your fuel pressure. Could be a clogged filter or the pump could be getting weak possibly.

Re: Starting problem
It's cranking, but just not starting until a few times after.
How do you check your fuel pressure, and which filter might be clogged? |

Re: Starting problem
You will have to have a fuel pressure tester. Then there is a piece on your fuel rail you unscrew, then screw the tester on. Then you will turn the key over a couple times, then check the pressure, then start check the pressure, then unhook the vacume line from the regulator and check the pressure.
The fuel filter is the filter I was refering to

Re: Starting problem
Okay, I'll try that. I was also told by the man at Autozone to check my battery cables to make sure their secure.. did that.. he also said it's probabily either my fuel filter or my relay switch.. so I'm going to try the fuel filter thing first.. could that be the culprit? The guy seems to be kind of knowledgable..

Re: Starting problem
ASk At your local Gm dealer if there is any warranty left on your car. Some have 3/years 60,000 miles . I may be wrong but it doesn`t hurt to ask
