Exclamation 2002 Smart Track Problems??? Or something else

I just purchased a used 2002 Bravada. Very nice car, very clean. Just having a few problems now that I have drove it 1000 miles. I was having the binding, chattering noises that everyone else was having on this forum. I changed the transfer case fluid with the Auto Trak II blue fluid like everyone said, it drove like a dream for a week or so, the chattering and binding stopped. I changed he rear dif fluid and was going to change the front, but could not get the fill plug to turn. So I only got to change the rear. Now for some odd reason, I am having binding problems again. It feels like I am driving down the road with my brakes on. When I turn sharp the car acts like I applied the brakes and won't move. If I am backing out with the wheels turned the car will not move, if I turn them straight the will begin to move. I removed the ATC fuse like others said in the forums, with the same problems. I took it to a local shop to have the brakes check, since somtimes calipers stick, but the brakes were perfect condition. So what do you think it could be? Smarttrack problems, ball bearing problems? I am lost. If anyone could help me with this problems please respond.
Thank you.

Re: 2002 Smart Track Problems??? Or something else

I had the same problem on my 02 bravada. Also tried changing fluid but still had that binding at slow turns. Dealer told me the transfer case encoder motor needs to be replaced costing $800 . I just ordered the part from a website for $175. Gonna try to install it soon as I get it and see what happens.
I think the transfer case needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer also.

Re: 2002 Smart Track Problems??? Or something else

Thanks DRUMTHEATER! I just paid $84 at the dealership to tell me the same thing you just told me. Anyways, they are going to charge me $487 to replace it and to reprogram the PCM, and since they are doing the work, they are going to give me the $84 back. The part will be here Monday. So I guess I will let them do it. It sounds like they were trying to charge you double!!! I hope you get yours fixed okay. Good Luck and I will let you know how my turns out.
