I have a 2000 Grand Am 2.4L. Bought it used 2 years ago started out with problems with the ignition where if I did not turn the key completely vertical the car would still be on and the battery would die. I had to take the gear shift and push it forward some to lock into a completely "off" ignition switch. Eventually this ceased being a problem. About a year ago I replaced the fuel pump after the car died. Now I am having a problem where the car will die at a stop. No overheating, no change in idle- just dies. Then it started to sometimes require multiple attempts to start. Sometimes 20 or more with waiting too. The mechanic could not reproduce the problem when I brought it in. Finally it was not able to start and the battery was replaced. Ran great for about a week now I am back to 2-3 tries to start it and just had one of those 20 times to start befor something finally went through. I guess when the battery is changed the codes are lost and no one seems to be able to diagnose this mystery- computer? Ignition? something in the wiring between the battery and the ignition? I see I am not completely alone in this problem. Help!!!
