1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

Hey everyone, im Jason. I just got a 1994 for Taurus GL wagon. i bought a keyless remote on eBay and the programming instructions say to jumper the pins in a connector that is located in the left rear quarter section of the car. well I have had that area open before, I believe they are taking about the section where the donut spare is located, and i have not seen a connector. I also double checked and no connector. does anyone know where the connector is or has anyone been successful in programming a new remote to a Taurus wagon? I don’t want to go to a ford dealership and pay like 100 bucks for them to program this thing when im tech and mechanical savvy and can do it myself.

The connector you are looking for is commonly gray in color.....and plastic. It will not be plugged into anything, just hanging loose.

Re: 1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

Alright i located a brown connector recangle just under the dash on the drivers side
comes down right next to te fuse panel thats not connected to anything. it has a little red piece between the pins, and is only a 2 pin connector. i jumper this and nothing happens. when in run or acc. one wire is blue with a red stripe and a brown wire with a white stripe.

also i located a gray connector behind the glove box. it was a circular connector that had 3 pin holes but only 2 were filled.

do you happen to know the rough location of the connector and the colors of the wires im looking for?

thanks so much,
Jason

Re: 1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

According to the factory service manual for the 1994 Taurus (no mention of sedan vs. wagon - also, left = driver's side in US):
Transmitter Programming

To program (or re-program) transmitter(s) into the electronic door lock control processor, perform the following steps:

1. Turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC position and momentarily short the two terminals of the program connector (J4) (a two-pin connector taped to the wire assembly is accessed by removing the left hand luggage trim panel). All doors should lock then unlock. Remove shorting pin.

2. Press any button on transmitters. All doors should lock then unlock, to verify that transmitters have been programmed.

NOTE:
If door locks do not respond, press button again (up to three times maximum with the same transmitter). If door locks still fail to respond, go to «Pinpoint Test I» .

3. Turn ignition switch OFF. All doors should lock then unlock.

4. Check operation.

NOTE:
The electronic door lock control processor erases all previous transmitters from memory when the transmitters are programmed or reprogrammed. The electronic door lock control processor can store up to four transmitters in memory.

The wire colors should be White/Yellow and Gray/Yellow.

It's not wise to be shorting out connectors that you're not SURE what they go to Wire colors (White/Yellow and Gray/Yellow) will be a more accurate indicator of the correct connector than the plug color. As shorod has noted above you may have to press the remotes button several times. Some models have this connector in the trunk. A common mistake that a lot of people make when programming is that they turn the key past RUN or ACC, so be careful when you do this, and I think there's a time limit for when you need to press the remotes button

Re: 1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

Hey,
Well last night i looked everywhere in the rear left area of the car. removed spare tire and the trim and everything. could not find the connector back there. I wish the ford manual would have specified where they put it on a wagon. i realy dont want to go to the dealership. but thats what its looking like.
Does anyone know if there is a seperate controller box for the remote system or if its integrated into the main computer? or where the recievers antenna is?
this car at one point had some kind of security system in it that was installed and removed before I or the pervious owner before me had the car. im wondering if the people who installed it didnt disable the factory keyless remote controller and what not.

any thoughts would be greatly appreceated

Jason

OK we're missing something here. Let's start from the beginning. You said that you bought a keyless remote on e-bay. I'm assuming that you meant a 'remote control' and not a remote system. If that's the case then why did you buy the remote? What lead you to believe that your car has the factory remote system? Does it have a keypad on the drivers door? Also check your trunk lid. There might be a sticker on the inside of the trunk lid. The sticker should be white with pink numbers. I've also included a reprint of the Ford directions for programing your keyless. Notice it says the module is in the left rear, which I believe is the drivers side rear (really don't know why they don't just say drivers side or passengers side?).

You could also check with Ford to find out what options your car came with when they built it. To do this e-mail Ford at [email protected] and request a build sheet and give them your VIN. Older cars take longer to look up than newer ones. I'd imagine that it would realistically take around 3 months before they sent you your reply, but at least you'd have a positive answer to what your car should have. You might also be able to get some of this information by going to the Motorcraft website and entering your VIN number there.

It is very possible that if you had aftermarket alarm work on your car that they unplugged the factory module. The module might have a 5 digit number on it. If they pulled the aftermarket alarm out of the car, then there's a good chance that they didn't bother to reconnect the factory system, especially if they didn't have a remote for it. If I come across anything else about a 94 keyless I'll let you know.

Re: 1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

Yes. I bought a remote control on ebay. My car doesnt have the keypad on the doors. Im only guessing that it had a keyless remote fromt he factory because of the electric locks and the electric hatch release. i mean why would they install the electric hatch release unless its so you can open it with the remote, because it would bave been cheaper to put a manual cable pully release in there if the car wasnt going to have remote entry. maybe thats how all the tauruses were built with that, i dont know. but thats what im basing my judgement on. the remote on ebay was only like 19 bucks so it wasnt a big loss for me if it didnt have the feature in it.
does the book specify where the controller is located? or posibally the recieving antenna for it? if i knew that I could track it down and make sure everything is connected and working.

Do you have a rear hatch button on the dash or inside the glovebox? Check your owners manual for exact location of the button.

Re: 1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

well its not exactly a butten but there is a lever i pull next to the drivers seat that is right next to the gas lid lock lever. I know its not a cable to the back because 1. there is no tention on that lever and 2. i can hear the actuator in the hatch release assembly move when i pull the lever.

Cool Re: 1994 taurus wagon keyless remote programming connector.

I don't know about wagons, but Ford does make the sedan with power trunk and door locks WITHOUT the keyless package, so just because your rear hatch may be electric doesn't mean the car came equipped with keyless entry. The only thing I can say is try to look at some other 94 wagons and see how they came equipped. It sounds like all of them came with what yours has as standard equipment.
