i'm debating weather to buy a set of 18 inch rims for my Grand am (2001) but this buddy of mine told me that the size may affect my spedomador (i cant spell sry) is this sumthing i should worrie about or what

i kno that if u get 18s it will look good anything higher just looks stupid, about the wheel changing the speed i honestly dont think if changes that much, i think if u get bigger wheel u lose gains on acceleration if i remeber right... i guess just wait for sum1 who knows the right answer to help ya out, but im pretty sure thats how it works...

yes, and the speedometer needs to be calibrated

Plus, heavier wheels = slower accel. Not to mention it takes longer for the wheels to make one rotation. Think of the balerina problem. A chick spins in circles with her arms out as opposed to pulled in... which way do you spin faster?

yup, your ride on 18's would look sick, it strue, youll have to recalibrate your speedometer(minimal, almost unoticeable) also, tire replacement is going to be more frequent due to the tire being low profile, also, drivability will be a lot stiffer(an inch does make a difference e.i. 17's from 18's). other than that, nothing to worry about if you go 18's or stay with 17's. Oh yeah, you are going to use more gas since like someone else explained that the wheel has to travel more in order to complete a revolution.
