i bought my camaro a few months ago and the guy did a lot of mods to the car, its an 87 and its got electric fans that run constantly as the car is in the on position whether the engine is running or not. Are the electric fans stock on that year? If so is there some kind of relay that is supposed to kick them on when the engine is hot? Is there a relay i can install that would do that?
also, my gas guage does not work, anyone know what could cause that? ive checked all of the fuses, wasnt sure where there might be a sending unit or something of that nature that can cause that? its not too big of a deal so if theres a lot of hassel involved i dont really wanna mess with it. it would just be nice to have that work. and one last thing, i like the guage cluser from the 90-92 camaros better than the 87's. I was wondering if i were to pull a cluster from one of those years would it be compatable or would i have to make some serious changes? thanks a lot in advance! |

What kind of motor do you have? TPI TBI, Carb?
The fans are not supposed to run at all times, and since it has been 'modded' it's probably been hacked up to have the fans run constant as the stock system has it's known problems, and , unfortunately alot of folks don't want to take the time to fix right and just hack a hot with ignition source to the fans. ![]() Fuel gauge can only be a sending unit/wiring fault. I believe you can swap the clusters, but I do believe it will require some changes that outweigh the astetics of it. |

do you know if theres something i can purchase that would be controlled by the engine temp? it would be nice to fix it right cause with it being a carb it runs a heck of a lot better hot |

yes, there is a fan switch on the right side of the upper motor betweent cyls 6 and 8 which is often the overlooked problem child.
