Getting a Honda
Yeah I'm definately getting a honda as a DD. Earlier this year I bought a 95 honda civic coupe EX vtec, A/T, power everything with some mods (APC intake, rice pipe, wing, CD player, tint). Paid 1,500. It was one owner car extrememly clean interior, on the outside the paint was at the early stages of fading. 212,000 miles on it and it ran like new. Sold it 3 weeks later for 2,800.
Now I wish I wouldn't have sold it since the DSM is no DD... So I'm going to get another civic. My buddy has a 95 coupe DX with 135,000 miles on it. I drove it and it runs good, doesnt burn a drop of oil. Interior is pretty clean. The paint is very faded and the front bumper and hood is white. It's been wrecked before but he fixed it. I don't doubt his work...he's pretty good. Anyways it not as good looking as my other one and its no ex but it does have alot less miles so it should last me another 100k-150k? He told me he would take $2000 for it. I think I would be happy giving $1800. What do you guys think? I need a good dependable DD and I like Hondas.

Re: Getting a Honda
Hondas do hold their value because they are such a reliable car... 1800 sounds very reasonable for it... I will be getting rid of the Firebird here very soon for a good cheap Cavalier just so I can get around without burning a shitload of oil and I'll get way better gas mileage and parts are cheap for em...
Hondas FTW though as a DD...

Re: Getting a Honda
My buddy has a 06 Civic Si. I installed a greddy turbo kit on it over the winter, turbo is similar to an EVO 16g. Makes about 240-250 whp at 7 psi. Now that makes a sweet daily driver.

Re: Getting a Honda
a buddy of mine has an Integra GSR with a few mods on it... 200k miles... beats the snot out of it... just sold his S2000, to buy a more affordable Si...
Now he's going to rebuild the GSR and turbo it... Honda's= reliable... but I still passed one up when I had a shot at a 3S... now I kinda wish I still had it... or at least woulda kept my RS

Re: Getting a Honda
Die? Harsh.
I drove that civic today and I like it....I will take a few days to think about it but I'm probly getting it. Fuck modding it though. Staying stock. It has a rice pipe and APC intake, and thats all the mods it will see. The guy even said he would give me a nice set of lowering springs for it...but I wanna keep it stock.

Re: Getting a Honda
The 6g72 is too much drama, espeially with twins (if you thought our turbo DSMs give us issues, you'd go crazy checking out what the VR4 guys go through, lmao). The 4g63 can outcompete that block any day with a decent a/f setup and a good snail. I drive my 3000GT SL pretty damn hard, but the block's holding up great given the mileage on it. N/T daily beater FTW!!
The one and only reason why I would not want a Honda as a daily driver, is the fact that most of their smaller models (civics, etc) are low displacement 4-bangers...like, the 2000 civic DX auto that we have as the family car...it's dangerously slow. I mean, we have to brace ourselves when merging onto the freeway...the lack of torque is so damn evident, it's not even funny. I actually get tense when I drive that thing. A slightly larger block, like the H22a, or even most of the newer larger displacement 4-bangers are powerful enough to get you around town without issues. Other than that, Honda DD FTW. The oldest cars in our extended family and friends are all Hondas and Toyotas, period; most of them with over 150K miles on the stock motor and stock tranny. You just can't go wrong with these cars. |

Re: Getting a Honda
Yeah I'm definatly getting the civic. I'll post pics when I get it.
The guy I'm buying it from has a few hondas. Hes got a early 90's accord 5 speed. Had 306,000 miles on it when he bought it...original motor and tranny. It was knocking though. He put a j-yard motor in it and its still rolling with 330k on the body. Its clean too. Hes got a crx si that got totaled...then he bought another one just like it. He done a b16 swap in the new one. pimpin. Hes got a 1990 honda civic hatchback that he swapped in a D16 vtec that came out of his wrecked 1995 civic si. And he has the civic I'm getting. Hes also got a 1995ish civic parts car and two more early 90's accords.

Re: Getting a Honda
This is one of the best, most worthwhile swaps I've ever seen done to a civic. Converted to RWD with a 3.2L Acura motor, boosted to 8-9psi. While I think the exterior is not my type, this guys' done pretty much everything else right:
