Question Tattoos on the forearms??

i'm getting my second tattoo soon. It is going to be an angel. I already found the artist and shop that I want it done at. I have seen his work before, and he has actually done a tattoo on my sister.

I either want the tattoo over my heart or on my forearm. I have meanings for both locations and for the design. It will be for my mom, who passed away in February.

I want some of your thoughts and ideas as to the location of the tattoo. I think that I would rather have it on my forearm. I don't really know why but I would feel more comfortable with it there than over my heart. Plus, i have some scars and "cosmetic blemishes" on my chest that may alter the way the tattoo looks. I want this tattoo to look its best.

The only thing i'm worried about with it being on my forearm is how it will effect my career later in life. I realize that I can cover it up and probably will no matter what line of work i go into (right now it is either working for a financial advisor or the Police Department). I know that I can cover it up with long sleeves, or even the cover up make up type stuff.

Does anyone have an tattoos on their forearms and how does that effect your career and the way you got a job. I know that society is starting to become a little more accepting of tattoos and the places where they are, but its still a concern.

on a side note - i already have one tattoo, on the inside of my ankle. I'm aware of the pain and everything that goes with getting a tattoo.

Re: Tattoos on the forearms??

Military won't take you anymore with tattoos on the forearms. Police department frowns on it and will make you wear a long sleeve shirt but they prefer you don't have any visible even in a short sleeve. Mostly the problem comes for offensive tattoos such as naked women or racist symbols.

I have a few tats and i've had people at work (customers) that I was delivering to call me a convict because of them. People will judge you based on anything..

yeah i heard that about the military. hopefully i won't be joining them anytime soon, and if i do get the tat on the forearm, i won't be joining them, evidently.

its true that we get judged no matter what we look like. i figure i might as well have something on my body that i like, i'm gonna be judged if i have it or not

Re: Tattoos on the forearms??

i want stuff done on both forearms, a pattern on my right forearm, and my second cousin's name and DOB/DOD on my left forearm, in roman numerals.

i guess you have decide between the judgements and getting what you want.

i'm getting them done in black henna soon-ish, so i can see what they're like. job stuff isn't stopping me, i want to be a diesel tech. it's my dad stopping me. he'd kill me.

i didn't even tell my dad about my first one. i got it and just waited until he saw it. He told me last night that he actually likes it and thinks its very tasteful. i was quite surprised.

I haven't told him about this one that i want to get. I'm a little scared to tell him because i know he may say something like "mom wouldn't want you to get something like that". I feel though that i need something like this to bring a little closure to everything that happened with her. And i figure i'm 23, he can give me his opinions but ultimately its my body.

Re: Tattoos on the forearms??

I would recommend not getting a tat you cant hide with a short sleeve shirt until you are very settled into a career with a lot of job security.

An old coworker of mine worked on the retail floor with me and had tats down his arms. He had to where corporate provided long sleeve shirts UNDER his regular camp shirt. And corporate long sleeve shirts are made for the guys in the warehouse, in the winter, with no heat.

Reminds me of that old Nickelodeon show Pete and Pete.

I think not hiring military and cops because of certain tats or tats period is stupid. Makes no sense.

Re: Tattoos on the forearms??

^

I personally wouldn't get a tat that I couldn't cover year round but thats because I plan on being in front of customers and clients for a good portion of my time in the workforce and I want people to remember what I had to say and not my tats. But for what its worth, a forearm tat is far less offensive than the ever-popular neck tat... or Tyson style face tat

Re: Tattoos on the forearms??

There was a study on tats here in the us a while back, indicated that visible tats on your arms, neck, etc. would cost you upwards of $500k in lost income over the span of 40 years or so. I've seen it where I work, alot of the job is based on customer service and corporate actually listens to customers.

Re: Tattoos on the forearms??

I'll try and dig it up. It's in a file at work, just have to remember which one.
