Question 2000 Dodge Caravan Door trigger temp. controlled?

I purchased a 200 dodge Caravan in 2003 from a dodge dealership and the electric locks would only work if it was cold out. the salesman told us it was because of a safety feature. now the electric locks only work if its REALLY cold. Just wondering if anyone has heard of a temperature safety thing related to the electric door triggers? I other part thats wierd is the remote lock device worked all the time ,untill I lost it =( . Would changing the relay fix this problem? Thanks for any help you can offer, Pam

Re: 2000 Dodge Caravan Door trigger temp. controlled?

Pam,

Next time a car salesman tells you door locks only work when it's cold, take that as a sign they don't know what they're talking about. Sorry, there's no temperature sensing circuit in door locks. There are several relays for the door locks, so I doubt that's the problem. There's a left front door unlock relay for unlocking only the driver's door with the first click of your remote. There's another door unlock relay for all the other doors and a door lock relay for all the doors. The only reason the locks may or may not work in warm weather would be:

1) You have a bad circuit board or connector for the body control module (expands and contracts with heat).
2) You have an bad circuit board or connector in the anti-theft system (if the van has anti-theft)
3) You have an intermittant ground wire problem from the body control module.

I know that isn't the simple solution you're looking for, but there's obviously been a problem with this system for a long time. It may be time to find someone who undestands the sytem and is good with electical diagnositcs.
