The odometer lights still work, but about 2 years ago the numbers randomly got all scrambled.. certain parts of them are really dim and some are bright but they dont read clear. So i have no idea how many miles are on my car right now.. the thing is, my car is in the shop right now getting a remanufactured pontiac engine put in (my 2.4 got rod knock) and I need to know when my car gets to 500 miles in order to change the oil (breaking in the engine). I am so broke right now, and this engine + labor is costing me $2500 so Im hoping that there is a some what cheap way to fix my odometer or some other way around it

Re: 99 cavalier z24 odometer is all scrambled
you could swap the gauge cluster from another 99 or 98 1/2. But you will still need to know the milage off the other cluster in case you ever sell it, so you don't get into trouble.

Quote:
The mileage for the odo is stored in the pcm, so if you change the cluster the mileage shouldn't change. |
