leaking anti-freeze at elbow

I found a leak at the elbo on the lower intake manifold. Is there a way of replacing or fixing the elbo without removing the lower intake

Re: leaking anti-freez at Elbo

Your post has been moved to the regular Grand Prix forum from Tips & Maintenance.

All you'll need to do is remove the alternator and the main drive belt tensioner assembly to replace the 90 degree coolant elbow. LIM does not get removed. You can leave the heater hoses connected to the tensioner assembly. Be sure to replace the 2 o-ring seals in addition to the elbow.

Link below has the removal procedure.

Thank you, after viewing the job I am confident I can do it. Question? to save a few bucks can I just replace the o-rings the elbo seems ok or do you think I will break the elbo when I try to remove it. I am assuming I can buy the o-rings any where. The local GM dealer wants $19.00 for the elbo and rings

I'm quite sure you can do the job. Best to go with the GM elbow and o-rings. I would replace the elbow because there is a high probabiity it has a crack or will break upon removal. Many of us have noted deteriation during closer inspection.

Dorman/Motormite makes aftermarket elbows but they are flimsy and cheap.

I will take your advise and buy the new GM elbow kit.

I just completed the replacement and it went as you stated above and thank-god I took your advise and bought a new elbow as you stated the old one just fell apart at the tips at both ends. I wish I was aware that ther was a lower elbow and I would have replaced it also it did not fall apart slightly different design. I will still say what a stupid design. Once again thank you.
