Strut bearing plate replacement

I'm going to replace the front struts on my 2001 that has 100,000 miles on it. Does the Strut bearing plate needs to be replace or just the bearing itself?

I don't generally replace items that arn't worn out. If they are ok, then just replace the struts. But, if the bearings are damaged, then you might as well replace the whole plate.
