99 Yukon wont come out of park

For the last 2 weeks or so my 99 yukon does not want to come out of park. Eventually it will and will move up and down the gear panel just fine. Brake lights work fine. Any suggestions?

Do you have to turn the steering wheel for it to come out of park?

Is the interlock from the brake light switch or is there another switch next to it? Just guessing.

I am having the same problem with my 99 YUKON DENALI. I was told of 3 possible items: Brake light switch, solenoid that the brake light switch triggers, and possibly the neutral safety switch ( which I doubt). My lbrake lights are working fine also, so any help, or odds on which one to repair 1st would be appreciated! Thanks.

Brycer, I have been told the same three things. I wish I knew which one to start with. I have been told ther brake switch is only about $30 bucks at a parts store. I guess i will start with that. I will keep you posted.

check master cylinders fill level...may be something simple. The fancy safety stuff they put on our denalis sometimes is troublematic...good luck.
