Translated Manga?

Is it possible to get the manga translated in english? I can't read Japanese, and German and Italian are too many languages to learn as it is!

Yes, Cbass. Just go down to your local Waldenbooks or other fine bookstore, or find your local comicbook shop and you too can purchase or order the Initial D manga from Tokyopop. They're also in the process of dubbing the TV series into English and attempting to get the series onto TV. As a matter of fact, I already own the first three volumes, which cover everything up to Shingo's challenge.

Does the translated manga use the stupid names like Tak and Iggy? I bought the first volume a while back and it had the original names, but I don't know about the new ones.

Well, it does and it doesn't.

As it turns out, Tokyopop is doing the democratic thing and listening to everybody when it comes to character names in Initial D. According to the story's progression, Tak, Iggy, K.T, and etc. are just their NICKNAMES. *everybody, breath a sigh of relief* Tokyopop knows that, while kids tuning in saturday morning can make big money, hardcore manga and anime fans have been paying their bills for years. Thus, they're trying the middle of the road apporach, and I'm of the opinion that it works.

Heck, even Shuichi Shigeno said that he didn't mind it so long as it didn't effect the story. That's the only opinion I should think that counts when it comes to the names.

Sweet, I hate the whole westernization of the names. Sheesh.

I dont care what their names are, as long as the translation is accurate and the voice acting doesnt SUCK (I just know they are gonna tone down Itsuki's hilarious outbursts )

Nobody knows much of anything about the English dub of Initial D beyond the fact the the Anime Vision fansub translation is the basis for the script. Plus, with Shigeno's assistance, they're trying to translate Japanese street racer mannerisms to American street racing mannerisms. Equivalent phrases and such, for when there really isn't a logical translation. (say what I mean, not what I say sort of deal)

I'm hoping they land one of the top voice actors for Ryosuke Takahashi. My vote is for the eternally cool Brian Drummond, or David Kaye.

That was the big difference I found between the cantonese and Japanese dubs. I couldn't understand either, but there was real emotion in the japanese dub, unlike the 100 odd variations of the cantonese word hoiyah(spelling I know)
