1/12 Otaki 1978 conversion to 1974..and more.....

Hey gang..

Still kickin' and building....slowly....
This car will be a stable-mate to the 1/12 1969 Baldwin Camaro I'm building...

It is a 1974 Corvette Stingray, the last of their breed to roll from Joel's shop at Baldwin Motion...

I started with Otaki's 1978 model, which is the bubbleback version, cut the rear window out, and fabricated a new rear deck and window opening...I had to add the side sails, to give the Stingray look...

The vents were also added at this point..Cut the long holes then added heaps of thin strip to represent the slots and fins...

Once the new deck had set in place, I started on the side panels...

Still need to add some filler, and get it all smoothed out, but it's getting there.
In between waiting for drying glue and bondo, I've also started on the L-88 hood scoop...these hoods were one of the wildest available, I beleive....
Started from the centre bulge, and worked my way out....still needs some final sanding and putty, but it is very close....

I have left it "oversize", allowing me to trim the lower edges, where it will attach to the hood...Main reason for doing that was, I am going to need another one, so may look at casting it...see how we go.....

Last shot is just an overview of the car....

Stay tuned....the Camaro is still happening too. My time at the hobby bench doesn't come in large intervals, due to work committments and such, but I usually get a bit done over the weekends...
There is still a very long way to go on the Vette ...I need to look into making the specific wheels and tyres which are on the real car too...Not looking forward to that......

You can keep track here at Fotki...

Hope you like guys...
Cheers
Greg

Hey there Rob.

Cheers man, hope to get up to the Expo this year for a look....
If this thing is on wheels, I'll bring her along. Not sure where I'll display it ?? Maybe we need a "primer" table....
May have to rent a bit of Andy's table, I'm sure he'll be up from Grafton again.

Hey, thanks guys.
No update as yet, I'm sorry....this one got boxed away some time back to concentrate on several other projects. None of which are completed either.

I had hit an obstacle when I was looking for wheels/tyres, but I may have something up my sleeve now....
The tyres need to be the ol' school large L60 variety...typically made by Pro-Track or Mickey Thompson...the tyres in the recent Trumpeter GT40 may do for rears. Fronts too if nothing else will work.
Was thinking of buying the replacement tyres to suit the Trump kit anyways.... So this may find it's way back to the bench before tooo long...

Have You thought about the tires that come in Tamiya's Lola T-70 kit? I'm using them for my 1/12 build.
