Re: 96 sierra water pump

its not hard to do at all. you got to pull off the alt bracket i think, its been a while since i did mine. but it can be done with basic sockets and wrenches. nothing fancy about it. 4 bolts hold it on.

Re: 96 sierra water pump

Loosen the 4 bolts holding the the fan clutch to the front of the pump
Removethe serpentine bet ( note belt routing if no diagram is handy)
Remove the 4 bolts you loosened earlier.
Carefully lean the fan/clutch assembly against the radiator & put the pulley to the side.
Drain the coolant & secure it so no animals or children will drink it.
Remove the upper & lower radiator hoses.
Remove the heater hose. If it has a Quick connection be prepared to replace it. DO NOT reuse the old one.
Remove the 4 remaining bolts & make a note on where they go. Some may be longer than others.
Scrape away old gasket material.
Make sure new pump matches the old one.
Install new pump using Permatex water pump & thermostat housing sealant.
Tighten bolts to Mfg. specs & reassemble in reverse order.
Fill radiator with coolant after installing both radiator hoses & the heater hose.
Crank engine & refill radiator after thermostat opens.
Hope this helps you out.
