Fusible links?

My 98 Lumina 3.1 died recently, and I have not been able to fix it. One day, it wouldn't start. I assumed dead battery, and since the battery was several years old decided to buy a new one. That solved the problem for a day or two. After that, it died again and I decided to change the alternator. I put in an alternator from a wrecking yard, and got a friend to give me a boost. While attached to the friend's car, my car started fine, but once I took off the boosters, it died again. I assumed bad alternator. Brought both alternators to be tested, and both failed. Bought a new alternator, put it in. Tried to boost it again, this time with a battery pack, but the car dies right after the booster cables come off. Does this sound like a fusible link issue? If so, where are the fusible links and what do they look like? Can I just hardwire them, or would that cause even more issues?

Thanks for reading. This fourm seems very helpful. I'm happy to be a member.

Re: Fusible links?

Welcome to AF, sounds like you really need the electrical system checked out here, it should run if the alt. is charging, no fusble links there are master fuses in the underhood panel, the alt out put must be checked as well as the general wiring that powers the alt.
