Speaker Size Issues

Alright, so just to start off, I know nothing about cars. Kay? Awesome.
I have: 2DR 1995 Cavalier
I bought new rear speakers(6x9), and with a bud's help removed my old ones(which were ruined), and got the new ones in. We hooked the speakers up and they worked fine. The problem is that they just do not fit back there. The factory speakers were not as thick, and the ones I got do not fit into the 'premade holes' in the back. Also, the driver side rear speaker's magnet keeps getting caught on a bar that is for opening the trunk, whenever I open/close the trunk the speaker goes up/down. The passenger rear side sticks up about an inch, and the driver's side would have to be up about 1.5 - 2 inches so that the trunk-bar(yep thats what im callin it) doesn't hit it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? I've thought about cutting out a piece of wood and just putting it between speaker and the rear dash, however it would have to be so thick I'm not sure how retarded it would look!
Or do I just have to suck it up and go purchase new speakers and hope they fit?

More info: the factory speakers also had mounts, I removed one and found that the mount did not even remotely fit my new speakers. Speakers are Kenwood 6" by 9" 3-Way purchased from BestBuy. Went to bestbuy.com, entered in my vehicle information, and according them the "speaker fits your vehicle."

Any help would be much appreciated.

take the stock mount n put your new 6x9 in it then start to tighten the 4 screws around it and it should pull the speakers in thats how mine worked as for your speakers hitting the bar in the trunk i have no idea

ok i just did this last night- i had 6X9 infinitis- it sux- the plastic mount- u have to grind down till they fit, i had an air grinder- its just alot of trial and error to get it to fit- than for the holes in the car, get vice grips and just bend all the metal down till ur speaker fits, its really easy

than u can use those stock mounts no prob- after u grinded them down

idk bout ur speakers but mine were pressing against the back dash- so i cut holes in the dash, and luckily my buddy helpin me knows alot about upholstry, so he made it all look nice, but now my speakers stick out through the dash but it looks pretty good


its not a fun job, but if u want ur speakers in there, go for it-


as for the bar hittin the speaker inside the trunk, lol we ziptied the two bars together so the skinnier one wouldnt hit- it works and doesn't hurt ne thing- i think its spring metal so its fine- GOOD LUCK!
