My Spec vs. Mustang GT, top end

This guy in the last generation GT was messing with me on the highway, trying to get me to run. I'm smarter than to race in traffic, though.. that's just dumb. Anyway, we both took the same exit, I figured since we were coming from STL, MO, and we both had IL plates on(STL is 20 mins away) and we get stopped at a stop light next to each other, with a car each infront of us.I rolled my window down and looked over and the guys says "hey do you recognize me?"... holy fucking shit... it was my Nissan rep at my local dealership, who always took care of my car. Customer service, or w/e. I had talked to him before and I knew that his car had a chip, dual exhaust, and headers. That was over 2 years ago, and he was talking about re doing the rear end. I told him that I wasn't boosted, but if he wanted to go for the hell of it, I'd be fine with that. He's a pretty cool guy, some of the best customer service i've ever had, and he agree. We went around the cars, when the light turned, and he was about 2 cars infront of me when he let it loose. I was amazed... we started at about 30-40, and by the time we pushed it up to 130, he had only gained 2-3 cars on me, very slowely. We caught up to traffic and he had a really suprised look on his face. He said he was really impressed that with half of the ponies I had, the spec kept up so well. We complimented each others' rides and that was it. I have header back exhaust, a pulley, BSR, and CIA. I have a new found respect for my car. Any comments?

Cool story, but why'd you post this into the Sentra forums?

No big deal... if they had a forum for being stupid, I'd probably be required to join that one, too. 2nd best to that would be joining the neon or cavalier forum. Sounds pretty dumb to me.

Funny you mention that. The day before a v6 stang tried to hand with me on a really windy uphill slope. I took a few corners at 80, and by the time I looked in my rear view... he was gone, haha.

Re: My Spec vs. Mustang GT, top end

what yr stang is it? if it's a pre 99 then that things not fast at all. if it was a 99-04 then it's probably running mid 13's.

Honestly couldn't really tell. I know he wasn't running 13's, though, if I could keep up with him. I should only be in the upper 14's. So my guess is pre 99. Still, that being the case, I think it's pretty good for a Spec. I know he was really suprised.

Re: My Spec vs. Mustang GT, top end

yea it must have been pre 99. what do you have done to your spec v? i had a 2004 with brembo's. i had aem cai, hotshot header, lightened crank pulley, and balance shaft removal kit. i managed to run a 14.59. i wish i woulda kept it and finished up the mods. It was a nice car, but the firebird cost me 2700 and i put in around 2000 for the new motor and bolt ons. so for just over 4k i'm running low 14's. i gotta get some real heads and a better cam.

I'm the man to talk to about mustangs however i used to be into them. i used to own a 99 cobra that ran 13.3. My buddy has this thing with mustangs he hates them and he can't stand losing to them. he raced a 01 GT auto and barley beet it with his srt4.

Treadstone is coming out with a kit for around 3k in a month or so. I won't buy til feb/march, or w/e due to income taxes and my year end bonus coming back. I'll just have a shop tune it. I don't think I ever really want to mess with the SAFC or any of that.

At first I will probably only boost to 6psi, until I rebuild the year after that. I don't trust my QR with almost 90k miles on it. People say 8psi will be fine, but I don't have the boys for that.
