Re: Need answer if TB ok...

what does the trany have to do with the rear diff? if the rear diff is bad replace it, for $250 and the car runs except the bad rear diff i'd take it, just make sure the transmission is good before u get it

simple test, start the car up and put it in gear, see if the driveshaft turns

Sounds like you mean reverse gear, maybe? If thats what you mean. The a test would be, to drive the car forward in drive, to about 15-20 MPH. Then, move the shifter lever to 1st/low gear while you let off throttle. It should back shift and slow you down(engine braking) If it just nuetrals/floats, then biggest possiblity is the low/reverse band is broke. The transmission would have to come completly apart. There is a piston that drives the band but they don't have problems, usually.

Sorry, can't think of anything else. Other than, the "reverse input" clutch is out. Which still means the trans needs to come apart, somewhat.

Re: Need answer if TB ok...

It needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Maybe some one would repair it. But most transmission shops will not just repair the defective reverse input clutch be cause of liabilty on condition of the rest of the transmission. See, the transmission has to come out of the car and the pump will have to come off. Then pull out the first drum to repair clutch. Also, when you only repair the trans, you really don't get a chance to inspect why the clutch has failed. So you run a great risk of repeat failure. Its called "cause and effect". Defective clutches are an effect. So then you must find the cause. Which can be anything from driver abuse to a hydraulic leak inside the transmission and soo much more.

Re: Need answer if TB ok...

ok, i get today my new tb...

Now i have time to look about the Transmission.
When the engine ring and put it on "R" or "N" then you cant move the car Backward, but is the engine off then you can...

Is it good or bad?

Re: Need answer if TB ok...

The "forward clutch pack" has welded/fused itself together(probably from low fluid level). The transmission is contaminated and needs complete rebuild. Or different transmission. When you shut it off, there is no more "bind up" in reverse and nuetral. Basically, its trying to go forward and backward at same time. This is because, there is no fluid pressure on clutches once the engine is off...Thats probably about the best diagnostic I could give, over the net. It would be good to make sure with your local transmission guy though. Good luck...
