Just did oil change-4 quart's?-5 quart's??
Went to O'Reillys and bought the 32mm socket to change the oil filter for the 2.2 ecotec engine. Work's pretty slick. So the next thing that I done was to look in the owner's manual and see how many quart's of oil it takes with the filter change. In my 04 owners manual it say's it takes "4" quarts of oil with filter change.
I put exactly 4 quart's in and started the engine and checked the oil level about 30 minutes later. To my surprise when I checked it there was no oil on the dipstick. No leaks anywhere. So I added another 1/2 quart and with that it finally showed up on the dipstick but was still below the full mark. So I added the other 1/2 quart and the level was normal. Ah am I missing something here or is the owners manual just flat out in error of how many quarts the 2.2 engine takes? If it's in error this is a big mistake. Of all the car's I have owned I have never seen this. I have checked other post's and it does seem the 2.2 does take 4 1/2 to 5 quart's of oil. |

Re: Just did oil change-4 quart's?-5 quart's??
put in 4, use the dipstick for reading. If its on the low line, 1 quart will fill it up to full. I use 4.5 including the oil filter. Ends up smack in between the hash marks.
