so who's taken an online iq test here?

i just took one (i'm very tired at the moment and looking for something to do) and the result made me laugh. according to this online test that "gives us quality akin to that of a professional, hour-long exam" i've got an iq of 158. this means that there are only (approximately, according to the most recent estimate of world population) 364,359 people in the world who have the same iq or higher than me. i've gotten iq's from different sites that range from 125-158

also, anyone know where one would take a true iq test? i've always wondered where i could take one, just out of curiosity.

Last time I took an unofficial one I had like 130. I think you need to talk to a psychologist to take the real one. Even though they arent really accurate anyway. You could be brilliant at certain things but if the test it setup in a different way you might get a low score. There are tons of variables.

Aparently I just found out last night that I have an IQ of 187...my mom told me that while we were having dinner. Aparently They found that out in 4th grade when I took an aptitude test and that i took one in middle school and in highschool and my IQ remained roughly the same at 187. I didn't believe her, till she showed me my test scores... I told her "WTF you held me back all these years!" She said, "alot of good it did you to have an IQ that high, you arent even in college this year" I told her I wouldve been more motivated in school had i known this earlier. Yeah what a good night last night was...

I took one during a series of mental investigations stuff when I was 12-13 at at a child psychiatry hospital... thing.. They're actually not that "precise" either I'd say, and if I ever did one again, I'd manipulate her alot more than I did then. I would've then if they'd told me that they we're in fact doing an IQ test, but they didn't. Bastards.

How come "attention and alertness" is a part of your Intelligence Quote anyway? And how the hell am I supposed to be alert at 8 am, especially when I'm not told to?

Like I said, IQ is at best a wild guess to someone's "smartness." Im not even sure its a useful measure of anything.

Not true though. IT DOES measure some vital parts of your... "smartness". I for one scored high on my verbal part and technical thinking/logical reasoning, while making less good on the attention thing and social skills (lol, what a stereotype?). Now how it seems from the looks of it, it resembles the "perfect test" someone here mentioned, though without any motoring skills. But on the other hand, you could argue about wether or not solving mathematic puzzles as quick as possible is abit of motoring skills or not, IMO. Since all your mental skills vary by the nature of the scene, your environment, stress, who's testing you etc., it could be seen as some kind of motoring skill to handle the situation and answer quickly.

Define smart then. And who said it's for being smart, anyways? It says intelligence quote, not smartness quote.

Some retarded people can do certain functions much better than many 'intelligent' people. Yet they arent called smart. Not trying to argue, this is just my opinion.

IQ measures nothing "scientific", but it does so in a very scientific manner. Intelligence Quotient has everything to do with assumed potential rather than drive and interest to meet such potential. It is often highly inaccurate in young children, so many kids tested in elementary school score higher than they do if/when tested later in life.

On that note, I tend to agree with Thomas Friedman (The World is Flat, v2.0) when he says: CQ + PQ > IQ meaning that curiosity and passion will supercede "measurable" intelligence.

Some observations about IQ tests...

ONE
The scary thing is that half the population is below the median IQ... Being from a peer group of mostly post-graduate educated folk I used to wonder where they all were, but in the last 18 months I've discovered where a lot of them are...

TWO
IQ is not a particularly good indicator of job aptitude or of success - it only indicates potential. Also some folk I've met with MENSA level IQs are deficient in social skills or ones who work in specialised niche technical jobs because they infuriate everyone around them...

THREE
IQ testing is very much a localised test and they vary from country to country due to context.

i agree with the above post, I dont think it applies to much. sure you can have a 180 IQ, but that doesnt mean you know how to drive a forklift, or how to manage a company.

Any generalized test is going to have quite a bit of error in it. I agree ^^
