For all you street racers

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070620/...ushed_hot_rods

Not sure if I understand. I'm sure these guys deserve it, but can "the law" really do this? I dunno. Then again I don't live in California.

Any opinions?

Re: For all you street racers

from the article:

Quote:
........
All three men who saw their vehicles destroyed said they believe illegal street racing will continue to prosper across the region.
"It will never go away," Maldonado said. "If it's in your heart, you will continue to do it until you can't anymore."
Maybe this is why Kalifornia feels the need to crush the cars? It's hard to race on the street without a car.

I like it. Having them watch is a nice touch. Ultimately, for all their whining, it's far less painful than a manslaughter conviction...

Dibs on the gun metal volks

Seriously, I would tell those officers well guess what now I'm getting a supra or an Rx7. Catch me if you can

California is so funny these days it's not going to solve the problem by crushing 2500 dollar cars that are made by the millions lmao. They should build more tracks instead of bitching about it.

Perhaps that is something the racers themselves should look into doing. Get enough ot them together, I'm sure they wouldn't have much trouble funding it.

Or, are you suggesting that the taxpayers of CA pay for it?

Re: For all you street racers

Some very silly assumptions being made here. Just because an enthusiast is driving a mass-produced car, doesn't mean he hasn't spent a lot of time, money and effort into making it unique.

As for building tracks, the tracks already exist. A significant factor in the street racing scene is the 'outlaw' element. Make it legal, and it loses its attraction. Build more tracks, by all means, but that won't entice the dumb fucks off the roads. Crushing cars will not stop them either. They'll simply steal a car to race in, or try that bit harder[at enormous risk to the public] to evade the police when they get busted.

Re: For all you street racers

I think they can crush your car here if you drive without insurance.

you can also go to jail for driving without insurance.

Re: For all you street racers

If your is found un-taxed, they can remove the vehicle and put it into storage.
If you don't make moves to retrieve it and hence pay the fines and tax etc, they will then turn your car into a 1m x 1m doorstop.
If I had my way, I'd then bill you for that as well.

Re: For all you street racers

what's the laws on having non-road-legal cars for trackdays?

can you have them sitting uninsured? i know you can declare it as off the road and not tax it.

I think it varies by locale. If you have a place to store it, where the neighbors don't complain about it, it's usually not a problem. I know a lot of us are thinking that it would be kept in a garage, but not everyone has garage space, and it usually sits on a trailer with a cover over it.

In some places, the neighbors are so fussy that they'll complain about the "eyesore" if it's in a side yard or in the driveway.

I think they should take the taxpayers money that is going towards illegals and put it towards something legal and something that tax payers can actually enjoy

I don't think any of us here will be holding our breath waiting for that to happen.

Oh, BTW, before 'naki can say it, your comment about illegals makes you a racist.
