Re: should i buy it
airbags can't be put back in ... you need to put in new or used ones, price them thru a junk yard, if your mechanically inclined you can do them yourself with a manual, or you can get them put in by almost any mechanic, shouldn't be too expensive.
If the car was hit hard enough to set off the airbags there is hidden damage, could be pretty extensive, I also think the sensors in the bumpers need to be replaced, does it have a salvage title? If the title is salvage you might have to go thru alot to get it back on the road, if its driveable on the road & legal you might consider taking it to get an estimate at a body shop before you buy it. Sounds like alot of work / expense, might be a good deal, but if you don't have the money to put back into it you still have a wrecked car with pricey insurance. |

Re: should i buy it
I work in the auto body industry and many times the airbags going off is what totals the car, they can be pretty pricy depending on what car they are for, but usually its those cars that have a million airbags. As for the hood and fender, junkyard will be cheap. You can repack the airbags, but it is extremely illegal, and they wont work.

Re: should i buy it
As long as its a Z28, call up a junkyard for the parts you need. Unless of course the cost of parts and installation exceed the price of another one in similar, running condition.
But I dont see the point in fixing up a 12 year old v6

Re: should i buy it
$500? If the car is not that bad structurally, and you like the car then go for it. I would only do it if you really plan on completing the car. If you don't finish the car out and get tired of it you will end up selling it to someone else for $500 too. I'd say go for it. I actually saw a 96' Camaro on craigslist a few months back, rear collision, for $600

Re: should i buy it
airbags are real expensive to get done, i would go to the junkyard and get used ones or just get yourself a nice grant wheel and do away with the airbags
