2000 Cougar Trans problem!

I have a 2000 auto, axle light is on and I have no drive gears.
When it's in drive it's just like I was in neutral. The other day I had reverse for a bit so I thought it fixed itself but no luck. How can I fix this or is the transmission toast?

Re: 2000 Cougar Trans problem!

I had a prob with my 2000 slipping and coming out of gear. The culprit was a simple thing, the shift lever position sensor. I was happy since I'd probably scrap the car if it needed full tranny rebuild. Still it cost me $300. $240 of that was for diagnostic and labor. The tranny has been absolutely perfect since. This problem has been reported before on this and other forums and seems to be fairly prevalent. Worth checking out.
