Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50

All right! Time for another WIP!
This is the "secret" build I mentioned before - I decided to build a famous Ferrari supercar of the 90's - an incredible and stunning F50. Here is what I plan to use in this build:
Tamiya F50
Crazy Modeler full detail photoetched set
SMS composite fiber decals of several kinds
Acu-STion shocks and lug nut sets
Scale Productions dampers set
Sakatsu fittings
and few otehr products that are not pictured.
Paint is Zero Paints original Ferrari Rossa Corsa, or course!

Here is what I have so far: all parts have been cleaned, fitted together, primed with Tamiya white, and painted with Zero Rossa Corsa. Wonderful paint! So bright it hurts my eyes! not even polished or anyting yet, but already looks very good! I'm sensing a long WIP here....

Till next time!

Looks like another fun build to watch- especially of a kit that's done so rarely here! The paint looks great- but I would have recommended putting the oil cooler and air conditioning airscoops on the body first. They leave a small but unfortunate gap if installed after painting.

Bring out the engine!

Yep, I thought of this too late...
Somehow I thought they will interfere with engine insertion later on, but I did some testing after painting and no, it fits just fine...oh well. :-)

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50

I painted mine separately, too. When I realized the gap would be visible, it just drove me crazy and I decided to fix it. But I seem to remember it cost me at least a month of headbanging, first. On the other hand, it would probably be difficult to paint them well if installed first.

Don't worry about inserting the engine. It's tricky, but certainly not difficult- even after the firewall and exhaust components are installed. I must have test fit mine dozens of times. I think it may be installing the plenum/air cleaner assembly that makes it difficult or impossible to remove, and that can be left until very late in the build.

How did you fix it? Repainted the whole thing?

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50

No, I just glued them up, carefully filled and sanded the gap, spot painted and recleared it. I was going to consider stripping the whole thing if it didn't come out, but fortunately I didn't have to. And so I got good paint coverage on the scoops all the way back to the faces of the radiators. It was kinda painstaking, but I figured if bodyshops coud do spot repairs, it was at least in theory possible. I imagine a solid color would be even more forgiving than a metallic.

Wait wait Alex, I lost something. Isn't those Zero Rosso a matt base? If yes what kind of clearcoat? I'm tuned!

...And if not... well I stop here before to curse so much LOL

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50

You better make this a long WIP. I really like to see all the details - and considering MPWR´s F50 - we all know that there is a lot of potential to give it your dteailtreatment as well. Keep the updates coming.
Congratulations on this paint job. That is a bad ass shine. Great execution!

This will really be a fun WIP to follow! You have owners manual for reference, don't you?

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50

Thanks guys.
Tang, yes, please include this in a groupbuild, I forgot...
Gio, yes, Zero Rosso Corsa is a matt base, clearcoated with Zero 2-pack clear. Its a good clearcoat, but I put it a bit too thick since I had no experience with it, and it was too late when I realized it. I will sand it down a bit and polish, should be good. The paint is soooo red, I think Zero is the best Rosso Corsa I have ever seen yet!
Niko, no, I have no manual - could you email it to me? I would appreciate it!
Thanks!
