Question i'm leaving the civic behind for a 240sx

ok, fwd was a huge mistake for me and so was buying a honda. after careful consideration of a few rwd cars i decided that the 89-93 240sx is the perfect car. But, being new to the Nissan scene (before the civic i had an fc rx7), i have a few questions. 1)What is the designation for the engine in the 89-93 240sx? 2)What are the following engines and what cars do they come out of...ka18det, ka24det, sr20det? 3)Is the sr20det the best and easiest swap for the 240sx? 4)Whats the deal with the 180sx? I love the look of the sileighty and would want to put an s13 front end on the 240sx hatch i'm buying. if anyone can help out with these four questions i'd really appreciate it. Ohhh, and i will be changing that user name soon too.

CONGRATS!

i'll do my best at throwing all the engines at you
1)the 89-90 have the KA24E 91-93 have the KA24DE (DOHC)
2) the CA18DET i think comes out of the 180sx? for some reason it's never been cleared up for me rather the 180 has the CA18DET or the SR20DET maybe someone else can answer that.
the KA24DE comes in the american 240's but none of them are turbocharged from the factory.
the SR20DET comes in the silvia's
3) in my humble opinion the sr20 is the best to swap because it's aluminum head and block instead of the cast iron block, comes turbocharged and is lighter.

still donno about the other stuff

good choice on cars tho!

1.)89-early91 has 135hp SOHC Ka24

late91-94 has 155hp DOHC Ka24

just like in the US our engines changed in 91, so did the JDM ones, prior to that the S chassis had ca18det engines(180hp I think) iron block.

2.)CA18DET 89-early91 180sx/Silvia turbo models.

KA24DET This is a made up engine, by someone putting a turbo on it

SR20DET late 91-01 Silvias, late91-late96 180sx

3.) The 180sx is the us spec 240sx hatchback is some aspects. If you noticed Nissan names a lot of their cars by the displacement in this era. the 180sx had the 1.8 litre CA18DE(T). When it came time for an engine change in 91 where they got the 2.0 litre they kept the name in Japan since it was such a popular car, these are the most popular sports cars in Japan. However they do call it the 200sx in other countries, like UK and Australia... when those guys say 200sx they really mean the 180sx or us spec 240sx hatchback. Not the Us spec 200sx which is basically a 2 door sentra....

Honestly a all iorn blockis stronger so it can take higher boost with out blowing apart..but most US people dont understand that...oh well
Anyway the S13 chassy is probly the better of the 2 that came state side..and the S14 is larger and more of a GT car(not really with the weak ass motor)

but good choice on cars...

GOOD CHOICE

ull have lots of fun with da 89-93 240sx!
it comes the ka motor
89-90 ka24e
90-93 ka24de (de=dual over head cams)

i would say the best and least of headackes would be te sr20det
but when u do get the 240 tty to get a 91+ because it comes with dual cames so wireing will me eaiser.

as for the sileighty conversion if u get a jdm front clip from a sivila of dat year you should be able to bolt on the sivila front end to ur 240sx.

hoped i helped
good luck

well you gotta remember that a cast iron block is brittle as hell, its because of the molecular structure of any material thats casted. its true that a cast iron is suppose to be a stronger then aluminum but, the SR has forged internals, and thats what makes it soo much more stronger then a KA. but if you compare the cast iron KA block to s all aluminum block and alumium internal honda block, then of course the KA will be the stronger block.

I was talking about the Block in the CA18DET compaired to the block in the SR20DET..but its all cool..

the reason I said this is aI know a guy, local that has a Golf pushing over 1000HP, he had to use an Iron Audi block cause, the Alu. block he had, had this problem of blowing apart at the wost time

Thumbs up Japanese Silvia and American Silvia (240sx)

Now lets beat the crap out of this. I like Nissans engine codes compared to Honda's codes.

Break Down KA24DE:
KA - Engine Model
24 - 2.4 Liter
D - Dual Overhead Cam
E - Electronic Fuel Injection

Break Down SR20DET:
SR - Engine Model
20 - 2.0 Liter
D - Dual Overhead Cam
E - Electronic Fuel Injection
T - Turbo

Comparison
KA24DE - Start out with a big turbo after working on internals and cooling.
SR20DET - Buy engine, upgrade internals, upgrade turbo, upgrade cooling.

KA24DE - 2.4 Liter; bigger and badder iron block.
SR20DET - 2.0 Liter; My little friend.

After all the winner is:
KA24DE - For a bigger engine and get all the work don in one shot.

Also your opinion. Everybody rather get the SR20DET swap but I believe it is completely unecessary.

Digging up a 2 year old tread just to give your little "KA is bettar!!!111!11" speech = Teh Ghey

Ive seen Way to many Fist sized holes in stock KAs to ever consider them superior to the SR20.

hehehe

This is funny one day I found this in Yahoo and I forget to check a date and I get pounded the shit out of lol. Well I am sorry to all people who somehow find it offensive to bring back an old post (accidently) and by the way I ain't no little boy. I apologized so chill out. Lmao. OK I'm done and I will say farewell to this post.

P.S.
My opinion, don't take it offensively. I still would choose a ka over an sr no matter how much crap people try saying the advantages are.
